Overview

The world is filled with conflicts—personal, professional, international. Organizations and individuals handle conflict with different degrees of success. People who understand the dynamics of conflicts—and how to resolve them—can improve both their own personal situations and their ability to contribute in the workplace.

K–State’s School of Family Studies and Human Services, in the College of Human Ecology, offers the opportunity for you to earn a certificate in conflict resolution. The program, facilitated by K-State’s Division of Continuing Education, is designed for adults who want introductory training in conflict resolution. It’s also ideal for people who already have either a bachelor’s or master’s degree but would benefit from academic study of conflict analysis and resolution so they can apply their knowledge in their current profession.

This certificate will provide an excellent skill set for people in fields as diverse as social services, business, political science, psychology, women’s advocacy, criminal justice and communication. The completion of some courses will meet Kansas Office of Dispute Resolution training requirements for various types of mediation [K.S.A. 5-501 and Rule 902(e)].

Conflict resolution is about more than simply mediation. Those with specialized training can address the complexity of people’s lives, help them build a sense of community, foster mutual respect and cooperation, and teach them to rely on fairness—rather than power—as a basis for resolving their disputes. There may be nothing more valuable you could learn than conflict resolution, so let us help you get started today!
