Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) For Technicians

Course Fees: $5 KS Public Employee; $75 Non-KS Public Employee
This one-day (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) course provides an introductory overview of the latest edition of the MUTCD, with emphasis on applications related to work zones (temporary signing), school zones, pavement markings, and Stop vs Yield control and traffic control for emergency situations. This course is intended for local traffic/highway technicians. We will be offering 6 Continuing Education Units for this course. The optional $10 CEU fee provides a certificate and a permanent record of CEU credits at K-State. This course meets the Kansas Road Scholar requirement for the two required courses "Work Zone and Traffic Control Safety" and "Signing and Pavement Markings."

Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) For Emergency Response Personnel

Course Fees: $5 KS Public Employee; $40 Non-KS Public Employee
This one-half-day (8 a.m. - 12 p.m.) course is intended for emergency response personnel with responsibilities for implementing "incident management" traffic control measures. The course covers Section 6-I (Incident Management) of the MUTCD. Personnel with an interest in this course should also consider attending the "MUTCD for Technicians" Course. We will be offering 3 Continuing Education Units for this course. The optional $10 CEU fee (see registration form) provides a certificate and a permanent record of CEU credits at K-State.

Geometric Design for Very Low-Volume Local Roads

Course Fees: $5 KS Public Employee; $75 Non-KS Public Employee
This one-day (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) course provides training in the application of the material in AASHTO's Guidelines for Geometric Design of Very Low-Volume Local Roads (AASHTO, 2001). This course is directed at professional engineering staff with responsibilities for the design of low volume local roads. We will be offering 6 Continuing Education Units for this course. The optional $10 CEU fee provides a certificate and a permanent record of CEU credits at K-State.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities/Traffic Calming: A Safety Perspective

Course Fees: $5 KS Public Employee; $40 Non-KS Public Employee
This one-half-day course is directed at local professional staff with responsibilities for the planning, design, and operation of bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The course also provides an introduction to residential traffic calming strategies and ADA requirements. We will be offering 3 Continuing Education Units for this course. The optional $10 CEU fee (see registration form) provides a certificate and a permanent record of CEU credits at K-State.

Low Cost Safety Improvements

Course Fees: $5 KS Public Employee; $75 Non-KS Public Employee
This one-day (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) course emphasizes the safety value of application of traffic control devices and roadside safety improvements. The course details the specific safety benefits associated with low cost and readily available traffic measures. The course is directed at local traffic/highway professionals and technicians.

Liability and Traffic Control

Course Fees: No Charge!
This one-half-day course is designed to educate local elected officials on standard traffic engineering practices, references (MUTCD, AASHTO "Green" Book, Roadside Design Guide), and liability issues. The course is intended for local elected officials and is available on an "as requested" basis.

Traffic Engineering for Technicians

Course Fees: $5 KS Public Employee; $75 Non-KS Public Employee
This one day (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) course provides coverage of selected traffic engineering topics such as speed studies, sight distance, traffic safety studies, pedestrian facilities, and roadside design. The course is also appropriate for persons with an engineering background who have little or no training in traffic engineering. We will be offering 6 Continuing Education Units for this course. The optional $10 CEU fee (see registration form) provides a certificate and a permanent record of CEU credits at K-State.
